Personal Training

Regular physical activity is well known to help prevent heart disease, stroke and high blood pressure. It also reduces the risk of developing Type II diabetes.
Exercise maintains healthy bones, muscles, joints and promotes psychological well-being.

Exercise plays an increasingly important role in weight management and overall fitness for people of all ages. The Dietary Guidelines emphasises the importance of physical activity for both weight control and health. Weight maintenance rather than weight loss should be the primary focus.

The Guidelines encourage people to increase physical activity and reduce sedentary activity in order to maintain or lose weight, recommending a minimum of 30 minutes of moderate to intense physical exercise every day. They also recognise the link between weight gain and health risks (i.e. premature death) for adults and they acknowledge that the distribution of fat in the body affects the risks associated with obesity, identifying exercise as one of the few factors that reduces central body fat.

Here at Pam Kaur's Centre, we have a fully equipped private gymnasium
and we provide personal exercise training with individualised programs to suit your needs. Cardiovascular integrity is ascertained (ie. blood pressure, heart rate, etc.) prior to the commencement of your program. Ongoing body composition monitoring is provided as part of the service so as to ensure weight loss is attributed to fat and not water or muscle.

Remember that this training is provided by a physiotherapist who ensures that you are maximising your training and performing the exercises safely!

Home Exercise Programs

We understand that not everyone is time-rich or able to spend time travelling to a gym or other facility on a daily basis to exercise. We also realise that there are people with home gyms who would much rather workout at home than spend money on gym memberships.

We are able to cater to your needs and devise a home exercise program for you. These programs are individualised to your fitness level and we consider your ability to access specific exercise equipment. The programs cover all aspects of fitness training including, strength, flexibility and aerobic activities.

Examples of people we cater to include (but is not limited to):

- Pregnant mums who are looking to keep fit before and after birth

- Busy professionals or business owners who lack the time to visit a gym

- People with home gyms who prefer to work out at home

- Frail or elderly people who are unable to get out of their homes

- Paraplegics, hemiplegics or quadraplegics who find it hard to travel.

We are also able to supply any equipment you may require to be able to start exercising, including dumbbells, swiss balls, treadmills, stationary bikes and lots more.

Planning an exercise program should be based on personal goals as well as on individual capabilities. The most important element is to think long-term and make exercise a permanent part of your life. Contact us to discuss your needs.

Exercise Prescription

For physiotherapy treatment to be highly effective, the prescription of specific exercises aimed at speeding your recovery is essential. These exercises are generally performed at home between your treatment sessions. They allow for your soft tissues to regain strength and flexibility and prevent recurrence of the injury.

Other types of exercises prescribed include (but is not limited to):

- To promote flexibility of joints, eg. for people with arthritis

- Posture correction, eg. for neck or back pain

- Strengthening for injury prevention/recurrence, eg. sprained ankles

- Post-operative rehabilitation, eg. hip or knee replacements or reconstructions, shoulder operations

- Strength training for people who have suffered strokes

- Strength training, eg. for the prevention of fractures or breaks with osteoporosis

Our physiotherapists prescribe safe and specific exercises to cater to your condition and to promote effective self-management practices that help you get on with your lives.
